The 1920’s was a time of luxury, style and decadence. Keeping that in mind, it’s no wonder designers have re-incarnated the flapper dress for their Spring/Summer 2012 collections. Shiny metallics, low dropped waists and fun, glitzy details like tassels, beading and fringing were the original party frocks for the girls who ditched their corsets and danced their cares away.
From Marc Jacobs and Gucci to Ralph Lauren and Alberta Feretti, the Spring/Summer shows were laced with a definite nod to the decade. Soft, leisurely cuts in whites, pastels and delicate florals accompanied elegant hats clearly taking inspiration from the daywear of the era.
With celebrities like Diane Kruger and Camilla Belle already taking up the look and Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby due out net year, I predict this blossoming trend will only get bigger.
